Jim Borders began his career as an attorney with Atlanta law firm King & Spalding and later practiced as a turnaround consultant at GrandWest & Associates. In 1992 Mr. Borders founded Novare Group. The company’s first investments were in self-storage facilities and office buildings, and the success of those projects led to the development of apartments and condominiums, including adaptive reuse of several buildings in and around Atlanta.
In 2002, the company delivered its first high-rise development, Metropolis, which has been widely credited with sparking residential demand that helped transform Midtown Atlanta into the vibrant neighborhood that it is today. Since then, the company has focused its activity on the development of high-rise mixed-use communities, and Borders has expanded the company’s activity into Austin, Charlotte, Nashville and Tampa. In 2006 Novare Group launched TWELVE® Hotels & Residences, which pairs boutique hotels with attainably-priced condominium residences. Since 2002, the company has delivered more than 2,500 condominium homes and 100,000 square feet of retail, with more than 5,000 condominium homes currently under development. In 2007 Novare Group was named to the Builder 100, a ranking of the nation’s top residential builders. In 2006 Borders was named Entrepreneur of the Year by both the Association for Corporate Growth and the Real Estate Advisors Investment Council (REAIC). The Atlanta Business Chronicle named him as one of its 2007 “100 Most Influential Atlantans.” He serves on the board of directors for the Buckhead Coalition, the Midtown Alliance, Central Atlanta Progress, the Woodruff Arts Center, the Henry W. Grady Foundation, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation and the Atlanta chapter of The Trust for Public Land. He is also a member of the board of Georgia Advanced Technology Ventures, LLC and Midtown Bank & Trust, where he serves as board vice chairman. Borders received a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a J.D./M.B.A. degree from the University of Georgia. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the National Association of Home Builders, where he serves on the Multifamily Leadership Board. |
